I’ve been struggling with MSN Messenger continually crashing. Messenger has been starting fine, and I get my Messenger icon in my toolbar – but when it comes to opening (right click – Open Messenger) it has been crashing every time.

The problem (for me, at least) seemed to be the saved / linked live accounts that windows has stored, so the fix was easy, once I figured out.

Give this a try:

Go to Control Panel -> User Accounts and in the left hand column click ‘Manage my network passwords‘, in vista or equivelant link in Windows 7 / XP.

Then remove any linked accounts / ID’s leaving the list blank.

Reboot Windows (may not be necessary), start MSN Messenger and Open Window. Fingers crossed you can now login again.

I’m not sure if it’s relevant or not, but the crashing of Messenger was hugely co-incedently close to an upgrade of ebuddy on the iPhone, which I also use to log into MSN Messenger???
